Roman Josi recorded two regulation assists and scored the clinching goal in a shootout as the Nashville Predators pulled out a 3-2 win over the host Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.
Ryan Johansen also scored in the shootout. Luke Kunin and Mikael Granlund scored the regulation goals for Nashville, which has won eight of its past nine games.
Juuse Saros made 25 saves for the Predators, who are 5-2-0 against the Red Wings this season. The teams will play their season-series finale on Thursday.
Danny DeKeyser and Adam Erne scored for Detroit, and Thomas Greiss made 29 saves.
Dylan Larkin and Filip Zadina came up empty in their attempts during the shootout, Detroit's first this season.
The first period was scoreless until DeKeyser's second goal this season with 57 seconds left. DeKeyser took a shot from the point that deflected off the stick of defenseman Mattias Ekholm and past Saros.
Nashville nearly knotted the game midway through the second period when Kunin hit the goalpost on a deflection.
Josi also banged a shot off the goalpost during the period.
Things got heated with three minutes left in the middle period. Nashville's Jeremy Davies put a hard hit on Valtteri Filppula, and Detroit's Luke Glendening retaliated with a crosscheck. Glendening was whistled for crosschecking, and he and Davies picked up roughing penalties, as well.
The Predators went 0-for-3 on the power play during the period.
Kunin tied it up at 3:32 of the third. He got behind the defense after a feed from Josi and beat Greiss on the glove side for his fourth goal. Matt Benning got the secondary assist.
Erne scored his career-high ninth goal on a rebound with 7:58 remaining. He shoveled in a rebound of Jon Merrill's shot from the point. Christian Djoos also collected an assist.
The Predators received a power play with 4:17 left when Marc Staal was penalized for tripping. Nashville quickly cashed in with 3:58 to go. Greiss stopped Calle Jarnkrok's shot from the point, but Granlund collected the puck and fired it in for his ninth goal. Josi had the secondary assist.
