First-period goals by Rasmus Andersson and Andrew Mangiapane held up as the host Calgary Flames claimed a 4-1 comeback victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday.

Elias Lindholm and Matthew Tkachuk both scored late in the third period to cap two-point games, while goaltender Jacob Markstrom made 24 saves for the Flames (24-26-3, 51 points), who have won two straight games and moved up to the fifth spot in the North Division, but have been officially eliminated from playoff contention.

Matthew Highmore replied with the lone goal for the Canucks (21-28-3, 45 points), who have only two wins in their last 11 outings and also will miss the playoffs. Goaltender Thatcher Demko stopped 24 shots in the loss.

The Flames and Canucks meet three more times before the end of their season, a series that resumes on Sunday. The Canucks will meet the Edmonton Oilers the day before their next meeting with Calgary.

The Flames have won five of seven meetings so far this season.

Highmore's first goal for the Canucks after being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks at the trade deadline opened the scoring 62 seconds into the clash. Highmore deflected Travis Hamonic's point shot for his first goal of the season.

Andersson replied with his fifth goal of the season, which equaled his career high. As Johnny Gaudreau gained the puck deep in offensive territory, Andersson pinched in from his point position and converted the pass at the 3:36 mark.

Mangiapane scored the game-winning goal at 5:17 of the first period. Mangiapane, who will play for Canada at the upcoming world championships, was left alone in the slot and deflected Nikita Nesterov's point shot for his 14th goal of the season.

Lindholm extended the lead with a breakaway tally with 4:27 remaining in regulation and then Tkachuk added a power-play goal 64 seconds later to round out the scoring.

With a pair of assists, Gaudreau has collected 17 points (6-11-17) in his last 13 games for Calgary.
